How to Search Criminal Dockets
The clerk's public Iberia Clerk docket page works division by division as a calendar index for the 16th Judicial District Court. There is no public name or case-number search box. For current civil and criminal records, the clerk points to Clerk Connect subscriptions. The criminal coverage listed there starts November 30, 1959. Expect an account or subscription to shape what you can open. Some images carry a per-page charge.
Match the court on your notice before anything else. A New Iberia Police misdemeanor usually belongs in New Iberia City Court. Louisiana State Police tickets go to District Court instead. So do Iberia Sheriff tickets, per the New Iberia City Court FAQ. Jeanerette City Court and the Delcambre and Loreauville mayor's courts keep their own municipal records. Federal charges sit with PACER in the Western District of Louisiana. They do not sit with the Iberia Parish clerk.
- Read the citation, notice, or court paper for the named venue, division, and case number if one is shown.
- For a 16th JDC setting, open the clerk’s docket page and choose the matching Division A through H.
- Open the newest Rule Docket, Civil Rules, Pretrials, or other dated publication that fits the proceeding.
- For a case-level record, ask the clerk about Clerk Connect, a minute entry, or a copy request rather than treating a calendar PDF as the full file.
- Confirm an attendance-sensitive date with the clerk, the courtroom, or the person’s attorney because a late Add-On can change what is available online.
Note: the clerk publishes no local case-number pattern, wildcard rule, or public refresh interval for the criminal docket. Any format shown elsewhere would be guesswork.
Iberia Parish Criminal Calendar Snapshots
The public docket tells you one thing clearly: which calendar document the clerk published. Each division detail page gives a publication name, a date, and a View/Download link. Labels like Rule Docket and Pretrials mark local calendar categories. They do not show a charge, evidence, a final result, or a full list of case events.
The clerk's sample division docket page shows that layout in practice. It carries dated Rule Docket, Civil Rules, and Pretrials entries. It is a fine way to find the posted document. Just remember the document is a snapshot. A later minute, order, continuation, or court-day Add-On can supersede it.
That division-page view is what separates an Iberia Parish criminal court docket publication from a searchable case register.
What a Criminal Docket Shows
A full 16th JDC criminal case record can hold a lot: case number, filing date, court and division, caption, parties, attorneys, charge or cause, minute entries in order, settings, orders, judgments, costs, and any access marker. The public Iberia calendar pages show none of that header detail. What they give you is the publication context for one division's docket document, nothing more.
| Division | The 16th JDC judge or section assignment. The public clerk docket landing lists Divisions A through H. |
|---|---|
| Publication name | A local calendar label such as Rule Docket or Pretrials, rather than a published criminal case-number code. |
| Date | The date shown with the docket publication. Check the document and clerk for whether it is a publication or hearing-related date. |
| Minute entry | The clerk’s official record or summary of a proceeding. It is different from the underlying pleading, exhibit, or transcript. |
| Disposition | Use this term only when an official minute, judgment, or other record supports an outcome. A setting is not a disposition. |
You may need a case number to request a record, but the clerk publishes no local format such as YYYY-CR-#####. Ask the office to confirm the identifier. Don't try to translate another court's code into an Iberia Parish number.
Iberia Parish Criminal Minute Access
La. R.S. 13:5992 requires public electronic access through LCRAA for qualifying criminal minute entries in qualifying cases. Those are cases filed on or after January 1, 2020. The listed categories cover arrest or summons, custody or bail, charge filing or amendment, motions and status hearings, trial, sentencing, and related proceeding information. Read it as an access rule for those defined minute-entry categories. It is not a promise that every filing or image appears online.
The statute leaves traffic violations out of that electronic-minute requirement. It also does not put exhibits, photographs, discovery, transcripts, or pleadings within remote reach. Need a judgment, certified minute, or filed pleading? The Iberia Parish Clerk of Court remains the office to call.
The Louisiana criminal-minute statute sets out the statewide rule. That rule sits behind this Iberia Parish criminal docket access route.
Those statutory categories show why an Iberia Parish criminal minute entry and a full case file are not the same record. One covers defined proceedings. The other holds everything.
Stages on a Criminal Docket
A criminal calendar typically reflects filing, arraignment, pretrial work, a plea or trial setting, and sentencing or a later disposition. Local rules assign non-capital criminal sections for pretrial, trial, plea, and sentencing work. Capital cases use a separate lot-assignment process. Traffic offenses are not randomly allotted until a not-guilty plea is entered at arraignment.
Docket flow: Charge Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial Settings › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
Under the clerk's local process, a motion generally must be submitted ten days before court. Stated exceptions apply. Late material can land on an Add-On Docket handed out in court. So a line marked set, docketed, or continued tells you the case's calendar position. It is not a finding of guilt or the final result.
Iberia Parish Division Docket Publications
Each 16th JDC division has its own route off the clerk's docket landing. The choice matters more than it sounds. The 16th JDC serves Iberia, St. Martin, and St. Mary parishes. A record found on a district-wide court platform should be pinned to a parish and division first. Only then should anyone treat it as an Iberia Parish matter.
The clerk's Division E docket page is another example of the public publication index. It does not turn a calendar document into a full case register. Nor does it answer every name search.
Picking the right division narrows your search to a published court calendar. It also keeps a district-wide docket from being confused with a municipal case.
Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets
Criminal dockets for Iberia Parish live with the 16th Judicial District Court and the Iberia Parish Clerk. They keep the filings, minutes, and published docket calendars for district court. One detail trips people up. The court serves three parishes, so know your location and division before you search. The district attorney, sheriff, jail, and local police all play roles in a case. None of them replaces the court record itself.
Smaller matters split off elsewhere. New Iberia City Court takes New Iberia Police misdemeanors, per its FAQ. Jeanerette City Court stands on its own. Delcambre and Loreauville run municipal cases through mayor's-court setups that post no docket-search page. If you hold a municipal citation, call the court named on it. That court gives the current case or calendar. For a federal charge, turn to PACER and the Western District of Louisiana. Remember that PACER, a city-court portal, and an Iberia Parish clerk calendar are separate systems. Each has its own jurisdiction.
Iberia Parish Criminal Record Routes
Pick your route based on the record you need. The clerk's calendar page posts public division PDFs. Clerk Connect serves as the current civil and criminal record platform behind an account or subscription. A statewide layer called eClerksLA may offer index or minute access. Its search route requires a login, though, and does not amount to a universal Iberia criminal docket. None of these replaces an ordinary or certified copy from the court custodian.
The Iberia Parish Clerk's counter, phone, and mail route still matter. They cover you whenever a PDF, an account result, or a statewide index fails to answer the question. Know the case, division, and date before you ask. Add the exact minute or document type you want to that list. Ask the clerk directly about counter or terminal availability. Do not assume a public terminal exists.
Iberia Parish Criminal Docket Updates
Freshness counts. The clerk's local process publishes Ten Day Dockets roughly ten days before court. Add-On material comes later. It is prepared close to the court date for distribution in court. So a docket PDF shows the official document as of its posting date. It can miss last-minute events. The Division B docket page offers a third example of that dated publication format. Before you rely on a calendar to show up, confirm that no Add-On, continuance, minute, or order changed the setting.
A dated listing proves an Iberia Parish criminal docket document was published. It does not prove the docket still looks that way on hearing day. Note: a missing result can reflect the wrong court, a date-range limit, an account gate, a restricted file, or a docket that has not yet been posted.
Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets
Louisiana generally lets the public inspect and copy court records through the correct custodian, but the right has limits. Juvenile records stay confidential in most cases. Expungement removes public access without destroying the underlying record. Sealing, redaction, privilege, and court orders can each hide part of what a search shows, so a no-result response never proves that no record exists.
Key Rules:
La. C.C.P. art. 251 - The clerk is custodian of filed court records and public inspection or copying is generally available during open hours, subject to law.
La. R.S. 13:5992 - Defined post-2020 criminal minute categories have an electronic-access rule, but the statute does not cover every filing or traffic case.
Children’s Code art. 412 - Juvenile records and reports are generally confidential, subject to statutory exceptions.
For an ordinary, certified, or certified-minute copy, contact the Iberia Parish Clerk. Bring the case, division, date, and document type. Check the clerk's listed fee page. It shows the current amount and payment method. Keep private identifiers from a public document out of any reproduction. If you want a record restricted, seek current court information or legal advice.
